Great news, right in Reading and Writing Week: 8D is partnering with the Centre for Language and Speech Technology (CLST) of the Radboud University to develop the ‘Digi Juf’. Digi Juf is part of the ST CART project, which – it was announced this week – can count on support from the European Regional Development Fund.

Digi Juf is a product that allows children with language delays to practice their reading skills independently and playfully. It provides students with accurate and immediate feedback and guidance while reading. The Digi Juf learns along and adapts to each specific user. Through gamification children are additionally motivated to use the Digi Juf.

Application of speech technology

In the Digi Teacher product, high-performance speech technology from the CLST will be applied. This speech technology enables not only the recognition of words in a user’s speech, but also more subtle abnormalities that may indicate problems in reading aloud or producing speech.

‘We work with innovative scientific research on sustainable solutions to current problems in the socially important sectors of education and health care,’ said linguist Helmer Strik, affiliated with Radboud University.
