The EFF-CoP project aims to combat food fraud and enhance transparency within the food supply chain. 8D contributes its design expertise to create innovative tools for knowledge transfer and plays an active role in disseminating the outcomes of this Horizon Europe project.
Food fraud, such as the deliberate manipulation, mislabeling, or falsification of food products, is a global issue that undermines consumer trust and harms businesses. Transparency and traceability within the food supply chain are essential to addressing this challenge. The EFF-CoP project aims to bring together more than 5,000 stakeholders to share knowledge and develop innovative solutions.
8D co-creates and guides the development of various educational interventions, tools, and dissemination resources promoting knowledge transfer to help stakeholders recognize food fraud. We also explore the extent to which these tools can generate data for research purposes, ensuring that all data collection complies with applicable regulations and ethical guidelines in accordance with the Data Management Plan and FAIR principles.
Throughout the project, we apply our design expertise to both the process and collaboration, as well as the creation of interventions. During the kick-off meeting, for example, we encouraged the consortium to identify and involve their internal stakeholders at an early stage. This approach enhances the project’s impact by strengthening support within participating organizations. During the session, we explained how self-determination theory—an influential motivational theory that guides many of our design choices—can help increase individual engagement. By sharing our ‘design mindset’ early on, even before developing creative tools, we aim to ensure that the tools and knowledge produced within this Horizon Europe project are effectively and sustainably adopted by the organizations that can make a difference.
The project began in 2024 and will run for three years. During this period, we will develop educational interventions that will be made available as open-source resources via the EFF-Hub. This digital platform serves as the central hub of the European Food Fraud Community of Practice, offering access to training materials, factsheets, and case studies. Follow the project’s progress via the EFF-CoP LinkedIn page to stay updated on new tools and events.
